Final random inspection (FRI)
involves randomly sampling finished products from a given lot and inspecting them to verify if they meet the required quality criteria.
The sample have to be representative of the entire lot, meaning it must be selected randomly and not be biased. Final random inspection (FRI) is a commonly used quality assurance method in manufacturing and production processes to verify compliance of finished products with required quality standards.
Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) tables are used to determine the sample size and acceptance criteria for a random sampling of goods subject to inspection.

The AQL tables provide guidance on the number of samples to be taken from a lot based on its size, as well as the acceptable number of defects or nonconformities in the sample.
Quality criteria can be defined based on product specifications, industry standards, or regulatory requirements. If the sample products do not meet the quality criteria, the entire lot may be rejected, or defective products may be sorted and eliminated.
FRI is a common method because it allows a large quantity of finished products to be inspected relatively quickly and economically. However, it also has limitations because because some defective products may not be detected by the inspection due to natural variability in manufacturing and production processes. Using AQL tables and random sampling, buyers can ensure that the quality of their goods is consistent with their requirements and expectations, while minimizing the time and cost of inspection.
During Production Inspections (DUPRO)
During Production Inspection (DUPRO) takes place during the manufacturing process, whereas Final Random Inspection (FRI) takes place at the end of the production process. The main difference between the two types of inspection is the timing of the inspection.
DUPRO is conducted when a certain percentage of the production has been completed, typically 20-80%. DUPRO is to identify and address any quality issues that may arise. The inspector checks the quality of the materials to ensure that the finished products will meet the required quality standards.
FRI, on the other hand, is conducted when the entire production process has been completed, and the finished products are ready to be shipped. The purpose of FRI is to ensure that the finished products meet the quality standards and specifications agreed upon between the buyer and the supplier.
The main difference between DUPRO and FRI is timing of the inspection. DUPRO is conducted during production process, allowing quality issues to be addressed before the production is completed. FRI, on the other hand, is conducted after production process, yet that may be late to make changes or corrections.
Both DUPRO and FRI are important quality control measures that can help ensure that the finished products meet the required quality standards. By conducting both types of inspection, buyers can minimize the risk of product defects, reduce the likelihood of costly product returns or customer complaints, and ensure that their suppliers are meeting their quality requirements.
